Worship ministries at Holy Spirit offer you an opportunity to grow spiritually in the church by actively assisting in the worship of God during Sunday services and at other special services.
Acolytes perform a variety of duties, including carrying the cross in procession (Crucifer) and carrying the torches (Torch Bearer). Acolytes also assist the presider (or celebrant) in preparing the altar for the Eucharist. All youth from 6th grade through high school age are encouraged to serve as acolytes, and adults are also invited and welcomed to serve in this capacity. Serving as an acolyte is an important component of the youth confirmation class for 6th-8th graders. For information about training and serving as an acolyte, contact the church office at 542-2167 or .
Each week the beautiful flowers adorning the altar in the church are given in memory of departed family members or friends, or in honor of friends or family members who are living. Many choose to give flowers in recognition or thanksgiving for some special occasion in their life. Your dedications will be printed in the Sunday bulletin. After the Sunday services, the flowers are distributed to members who are unable to attend church. During Advent and Lent when there are no flowers on the altar, you may still donate to the altar flowers and your memorials or thanksgivings will appear in the bulletin for that week; your contributions will go toward the Christmas or Easter flowers, and your dedications will be listed again at that time. Our altar flower chairperson is the Rev. Myrna Chaney. For more information or to donate to the altar flowers, please contact the church office at 542-2167 or .
The Altar Guild is open to all parishioners and includes a cross section of the parish. Each member is assigned to a team on a rotating weekly schedule, in which each team has responsibility for preparing the altar, vestments, and communion vessels for all worship services that week. The services include baptisms, weddings, funerals, and Holy Eucharist. Altar Guild Maintenance meets twice a month to clean and polish the silver and brass that will be used at Holy Spirit worship services. Seasonal events include making palm crosses for Palm Sunday. For more information, contact the church office at 542-2167 or and we will put you in touch with the Altar Guild.
Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers
Lectors are trained to read lessons from Holy Scripture to the congregation during worship services. Lectors can be trained at any time during the year. Please contact the office at 542-2167 or if you are interested in serving as a lector. Eucharistic Ministers (Chalice Bearers) assist the clergy in the distribution of Holy Communion by administering the wine from the chalice. Often they will serve as lectors at the same service. The ministry of the Eucharistic Ministers is overseen by the Bishop of the Diocese of Montana who licenses Eucharistic Ministers at the recommendation of the rector. If you are interested in serving as a Eucharistic Minister, we invite you to contact the Rev. Terri Ann Grotzinger for information on training dates and licensing, at or 542-2167.
During worship services, intercessors lead the congregation in the Prayers of the People, on behalf of the church, the nation, our world, and the people of our community. If you are interested in serving as an intercessor, please contact Judy Parock in the church office at 542-2167 or .
Ushers welcome and assist both visitors and parishioners. They greet worshippers at our Sunday morning services, hand out bulletins, direct parents to the nursery or church school, help latecomers find a place to sit, receive and present the offering, and help with other details during each service. Ushers are also called to serve at special worship services, such as funerals, to assist worshippers in seating and during Holy Communion. If you would like to be part of this ministry of hospitality and service, please contact the church office at 542-2167 or . Gary Swartz is our usher coordinator.
Music is an important component of worship at Holy Spirit. As St. Augustine said, "He who sings, prays twice." For more information about our adult choir and how you can join, please click here to see our Music page.
