‘The times they are a changin’ – Our medical system is challenging! GPs no longer make house calls. The time allowed by insurance for the average GP visit is 15 minutes, 30 minutes for more complex issues. That’s not much time to absorb new information and ask questions!
The Holy Spirit Visiting Committee has found that elderly members of our congregation, those experiencing chronic conditions and their families often do not understand the healthcare options available for aging parents or family members as they begin to require more care. In our culture of individualism and self-sufficiency, we are reluctant to admit vulnerability or our need for additional support. We often don’t know what’s available to us, what questions to ask or how to seek help.
The Holy Spirit Visiting Committee invites you to a Health Care for the Elderly Community wide informational event on August 26 at 6:00 PM to learn about what supportive care is available and paid for by Medicare / Medicaid and health insurance. It’s an opportunity to learn and to ask questions. Feel free to bring friends or neighbors.
