Update from Standing Committee

A message from the Standing Committee concerning a proposed change in the Diocesan Canons as to who can vote for Bishop-elect.

The Standing Committee is introducing a resolution to be voted upon prior to the election of the next bishop that restores the vote in an Episcopal Election, to all who normally vote at Diocesan Convention, allowing them to vote for the next bishop.  This means that members of the Standing Committee, the Diocesan Council, those affiliated with youth ministries and camp as well as youth delegates (under the age of 16) would be able to vote in the election of the Bishop.  Please go to the website of the Diocese of Montana and read the resolution as it will be one of the first orders of business prior to the election of the next bishop, and if passed, would go into immediate effect.

To be clear, all those eligible to vote on matters before convention, can vote on this resolution.  If it passes, then those who normally vote at convention would be able to vote to elect the next bishop.

If you have any questions about this, Bradley Wirth, a member of the Standing Committee, would be happy to do his best to answer them.  He can be reached at or 406.250.1690.
