From the Senior Warden: Recent Vestry Calls
Recent Vestry Calls
I want to thank all our parishioners who took the time to talk to our vestry members and other volunteers who made calls to check in and get some feedback to help the vestry plan their focus for the coming year! Of the 269 names distributed, we had conversations with 123 households. We also identified some phone numbers that were out of date and some people who have moved on from Holy Spirit.
I have heard from both callers and those receiving the calls (callees?) about how much they appreciated the calls. Many of you mentioned how you enjoyed the conversations that resulted from the contact. That person to person connection is invaluable and is a step towards rebuilding that sense of community.
We are more aware of our demographics. We are an aging parish. We have some wonderful young families and singles in our midst but most of us have been around a while. The number of people who commented on dealing with health issues, either their own or of a loved one, struck me. Also the number of people who have recently experienced the death of a loved one.
The responses also show the diversity of opinion our parishioners hold. For pretty much every response, you can read further and find an opposite opinion. The effort to provide a spiritual home that encompasses everyone is a constant balancing act. We are also more aware of the breadth of calls and requests that our staff and clergy receive daily.
There were many suggestions that the vestry is considering as well as individual specific needs of requests that are being passed on to the clergy, staff and ministry heads for responses.
All in all, people love Holy Spirit and the people of our church. The dominant tone of the calls was positive and optimistic. We are blessed with caring talented people..
The vestry then identified three areas they would like to focus on in the coming year. These include children, youth and their parents - financial stability and stewardship - and growing Holy Spirit Parish. You will be hearing more about these in the coming weeks.
Sincerely, Warren Gartner - Senior Warden
