Compline, 8 p.m.
Sunday, October 13, 2024, 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Another season of Choral Compline begins on October 13th at 8:00 pm
Christ beneath me, Christ above me.
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
On Sunday, October 13th, the tenth season of choral compline will commence at Holy Spirit. Offered at 8 pm on October 13 and the first Sunday evening of each month from November through June, the service is held in candlelight with most of the service sung or chanted by the Holy Spirit Compline Choir. The service lasts thirty minutes, although the church is open before and after the service for prayer.
Choral compline at Holy Spirit is based on the simple service found in the Book of Common Prayer used at the close of the day. The service at Holy Spirit includes the chanting of the psalm appointed for the day as well as music appropriate to the liturgical season. Brief meditations are included in the service, often based on the words of a saint or a contemporary poet or writer. The October 13th service will include meditations based on the words of St. Patrick, the fifth century "Apostle to Ireland."
Please join us in this peaceful and prayerful way to mark the end of the day and prepare for the week ahead.
Upcoming: On Sunday evening, November 3rd, we will hold a special compline service, marking All Souls Day when we remember and pray our good-byes to the Holy Spirit parishioners who have died over the past year.
