Alms Sunday February 23rd
Reading Opens Your World - ROW
Reading – Literacy – is so important in today's world....and learning to read begins when we are young. Unfortunately, as many as 40% of Elementary School students in the Missoula County School system do not read at grade level, when tested in the 3rd Grade....and research shows that nearly all of these students will be further behind by the time they reach 8th Grade, the next time they are tested.... and many will, unfortunately, be functionally illiterate as adults.
ROW is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization that gives students one-on-one reading attention once a week. Every other week, the student is gifted a book to build their home library. Throughout the school year, the volunteer and student have an opportunity to create a bond and hopefully instill a love of reading. ROW is currently working at Lewis and Clark, Target Range, and Russell Schools.
Come to our Alms Sunday on February 23rd... learn how this grassroots organization has started and grown and how you can contribute, whether with funds to purchase books or as a volunteer working directly with our youth and Missoula citizens of the future.
