Celebrating women in the priesthood for 50 years!

Join folks from across western Montana on Saturday June 22 here at Holy Spirit for a special viewing of the documentary, Philadelphia Eleven. It chronicles the ordination of the first women, eleven of them, who were ordained as priests within the Episcopal Church fifty years ago on July 29, 1974. Donations secured from around the diocese have enabled us to show this film.

About the film. In an act of civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organize their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomes them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, threatened and banned from stepping on church property. In this feature-length film, we meet the women who succeed in building a movement that transforms an age-old institution, and challenges the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom.

Our Event. Lunch food will be available in the parish hall by 11 am. We know that some folks will be traveling from a distance in order to attend this event. So we invite you to grab some nourishment and make some connections with one another. Then we'll view the film from the pews in the nave from 11:30 to 1:00. We'll follow this with a 30 minute talk back session, discussing the highlights of this moving film. And we'll get folks back on the road (with food to go) shortly after 1:30 pm. Please RSVP to this event at . Let us know you'll be joining us and if you will be traveling from a distance.
