November 24 is Alms Sunday for Soft Landing Missoula
Soft Landing Missoula is in its ninth year as a community organization dedicated to helping Missoulians welcome refugees and immigrants. SLM has a wealth of programs and activities that serve to connect families and individuals who have recently arrived from all over the world to connect with and to thrive in our community. As the organization says, "We invest in the long welcome, celebrate miestones and culture, and create opportunities to share experiences as a way to build a community where we all can thrive." SLM's new office at 2925 Palmer St., Suite A, doubles as a community center where clients come for assistance, clothing and housewares donations and classes. Academic mentorship programs help kids adjust to a new school system, prepare for college and have fun exploring western Montana. The vaunted United We Eat program showcases delicious meals prepared by refugee chefs, available for pick-up most weeks of the year, as well as multi-course dinners in local restaurants. During Welcoming Week every September, events ranging from festive to educational bring together immigrants, refugees, and longtime Missoula residents to share culture and experience with one another.
