Standing Committee
From the Transition Committee – November 2019
The Bishop Transition Committee of the Diocese of Montana is working with our Bishop elect, Marty Stebbins, to purchase the items associated with her role as our new Bishop. These items include:
- the Bishop's ring
- a Crosier or the bishop's crook, similar to a sheep herder crook
- a Cassock (purple or black trimmed with purple)
- a Rochet (white over-garment - longer than surplice and shorter than an alb
- a Chimere (red or black over-garment atop the rochet, similar to a long wide stole
- a Cope (open fronted vestment)
- a Miter (mitre) preferable white and/or gold
- Chasubles and stoles for the liturgical seasons
As you can imagine these beautiful items are expensive and the Standing Committee and the Transition Committee are encouraging each of us to contribute as we can to these necessary expenses.
Contributions can be made payable to the Diocese of Montana and given to your parish or mailed to the Diocesan Office (PO Box 2020, Helena, MT 59624) with a notation of "Bishop's gifts" or given on-line at this link https://diomontana.com/donations/. If you can have your donation to the Diocesan office by December 15, 2019, it would be greatly appreciated!
Any funds in excess of the several thousand dollars needed, would be placed in the Bishop's Discretonary Fund. Please consider the excitement of welcoming our new Bishop into the position with loving kindness as she begins her tenure of serving the people and parishes of the Episcopal Diocese of Montana. Thank you!!
