Creation Care Field Trip - June 19, Packer Meadows

The month of June brings a wide variety of wildflowers to the high meadows of the Rockies. One of these spectacular displays happens when the Camas flowers bloom in Packer Meadows near Lolo Pass. On June 19 Holy Spirit’s Creation Care ministry is hosting a field trip to see the Camas flowers as well as other wildflowers.

From Missoula you head south on route 93 to Lolo. In Lolo take route 12 west (right turn) until you reach Idaho. At the border the Forest Service has a Visitor Center with a large parking lot. We will meet in that parking lot at 10:00 am (Montana time). You can visit the center and then we will walk the short, paved nature trail behind the building. There are usually many interesting flowers along the trail as well as birds and other small wildlife.

From the Visitor Center it is a short drive to Packer Meadows where we will take a walk out into the meadows to enjoy the flowers. From Packer Meadows you have the options of heading home, driving a short distance to a trail to an overlook of one of Lewis & Clark’s campsites, and/or driving on down from the pass into Idaho to DeVoto Grove where you can hike among the huge cedar trees along the Crooked Fork of the Lochsa River.

Please call or email the Gartners to sign up for the trip. (317)872-2431 or We will drive separately and please bring a mask and maintain safe social distancing.
